Frequent Questions

Is Sleep & Calm right for me?

Sleep & Calm is built for the two most common reasons winding down at night is hard: a magnesium shortfall that keeps the nervous system tense, and a mind that keeps racing after lights-out. It is not a sedative, and there is no melatonin. If you take blood-pressure medication or antibiotics, or are pregnant or nursing, check with your doctor before starting. Ask us directly →

What testing do you complete for Sleep & Calm?

“Third-party tested” means the testing is done by an independent laboratory with no financial stake in the result. Every TAO Daily production batch will be tested by an independent, ISO 17025-accredited laboratory: potency against the label claim, four heavy metals (arsenic, cadmium, lead, mercury), and a full microbial panel. Every batch will be tested, every shipped batch’s results will be published by lot number — and a failing batch will not ship. What is magnesium bisglycinate?

Magnesium bisglycinate is a chelate: magnesium bound to two molecules of glycine, an amino acid your body uses. “Fully reacted” means every milligram is genuinely chelated, not blended with cheaper oxide to hit a number. Because glycine is heavy, the compound is only about 14% magnesium by weight — so the 200 mg on our label is the elemental figure, the mineral itself, from roughly 1.4 g of compound. Why is there no melatonin?

Melatonin is a hormone, not a nutrient. Your body releases a fraction of a milligram at night as a signal — the 5–10 mg in typical gummies is well over a hundred times what your body releases across a whole night, which shouts over the signal rather than clarifying it. A nightly formula should support the systems that produce sleep, not override them.* Read the essay →

Will Sleep & Calm make me groggy in the morning?

No. Neither ingredient is a sedative — magnesium and L-theanine lower arousal rather than force sleep, a different mechanism from sleep aids that leave a hangover. You should wake clear. About L-theanine →

Why bisglycinate instead of citrate or oxide?

Not for absorption. The comparative human data needed to rank the common magnesium forms honestly does not exist, and we do not claim it. We chose bisglycinate because its elemental content can be checked against a known ceiling, because glycine is an amino acid your body uses rather than a filler, and because 200 mg fits two capsules without anything added to bulk it out. Is it vegan?

Yes. The capsule is hypromellose, made from cellulose, with carrageenan from red seaweed as the gelling agent — hypromellose does not set on its own the way gelatin does, so a plant-based capsule needs one. No gelatin and no animal-derived material.

What else is in it?

Nothing in the powder. Two capsules give you 200 mg of elemental magnesium, from roughly 1.4 g of fully reacted magnesium bisglycinate, plus 200 mg of L-theanine. The only other ingredient is the capsule itself. Elemental vs compound magnesium →
