The most common question we get is a fair one: you make a sleep-support formula — where's the melatonin? Short answer: on purpose, nowhere.
Melatonin is everywhere. It's in gummies, sprays, teas, and almost every "sleep" blend on the shelf. Leaving it out of Sleep & Calm was the first formulation decision we made, and it's worth explaining honestly.
Melatonin is a hormone, not a mineral
Melatonin isn't a nutrient your body runs low on the way it can run low on magnesium. It's a hormone — a signaling molecule your brain produces on its own schedule, rising in the evening as light fades.
Supplementing a hormone is a different kind of decision than supplementing a mineral. We think that decision belongs to you and, ideally, a conversation with your doctor — not buried in a proprietary blend you took because the bottle said "sleep."
The morning-after problem
Ask around and you'll hear the same story: melatonin at night, fog the next morning. Many people describe waking up groggy rather than rested — trading a rough night for a slow morning.
That trade never made sense to us. The point of a good night isn't the night. It's the next day.
Sleep & Calm is built to be non-hormonal, so there's nothing in it that overrides your body's own signaling — and nothing to sleep off in the morning. Wake clear, not groggy.*
Doses drifted far from the research
Much of the early research on melatonin used small amounts — commonly 0.5 to 1 mg. Walk the aisle today and you'll find 5 mg, 10 mg, even 12 mg servings sold as standard. And because melatonin is regulated as a supplement, independent analyses have repeatedly found that the amount in the bottle can differ substantially from the amount on the label.
A hormone, at many times the researched dose, with loose labeling. We didn't want to hand that to our own family — and this company started as something made for our family.
What we built instead
So Sleep & Calm works upstream instead: magnesium bisglycinate for the mineral shortfall that keeps the nervous system tense, and L-theanine for the racing mind that won't wind down when the lights go off. Nothing that forces sleep — only what removes what stands in its way.
Two ingredients, full doses, both printed on the front: 200 mg of elemental magnesium (from fully reacted magnesium bisglycinate) and 200 mg of L-theanine. No hormones, no blends, no fine print doing heavy lifting.
Is melatonin ever the right call?
Maybe — that's between you and your doctor, and for some situations, like adjusting to time-zone changes, it's a common short-term choice. This isn't an anti-melatonin manifesto. It's a transparency policy: we'll tell you exactly what's in our formula, exactly why, and exactly what we chose to leave out.
Melatonin is the biggest thing we left out. On purpose.
